Apple Seems to Be Making an iPhone Photo Authentication Feature

Apple’s latest iOS 27 beta mentions a new Reference Image feature that looks designed to offer image authentication. As 9to5Mac reports, Apple Reference Image sends an image with hard-coded sensor data and metadata to Private Cloud Compute to ensure that a photo taken with an iPhone can be authenticated. It sounds similar to how Content Credentials work on select interchangeable lens cameras and even some other smartphones, like last year’s Google Pixel 10, the first smartphone to include built-in hardware-level C2PA Content Credentials. This will be an interesting feature to keep an eye on as iOS 27 nears its full public release.
