The Sony FE 200-600mm f/5.6-6.3 G is a supertelephoto zoom with a great balance of characteristics. It’s long enough for distant wildlife photography, yet portable enough to carry with you.

At the furthest reach of the lens, the lens is pleasingly sharp even when shooting wide open (f/6.3 at this focal length). It is excellent between f/8 and f/16, becoming ever so slightly softer at f/22.

  • For us more common folk, the FE 200-600mm is right up our alley. Classified as a G lens, the optics are going to be good while still keeping the overall cost of the lens more affordable.

The Sony FE 200-600mm f/5.6-6.3 G OSS might be the only bird photography lens in their lineup that doesn’t cost $13,000, but that doesn’t necessarily mean it has to be a reluctant purchase.

The Sony 200-600mm is an excellent stabilized ultratelephoto zoom. It's super sharp, easy for me to hand-hold, focuses ultra fast and very easy to zoom with just a fingertip.

It's in saying that though, you do get that flexibility, so this is going to be an extremely versatile lens whether you're shooting sports, wildlife, you can even use it for, I guess, portraits, landscapes if you really wanted to.

Really, if all you care about is the main functionality of a lens, which is to achieve high quality imagery, you could end this review right here and I tell you that this is the best IQ you can achieve in a lens for two thousand dollars.
