What the Reviewers Say

All 10 expert reviews, weighted into the PixelMeter score.

  • PetaPixel 8.5/10

It turns out that the new 40mm f/2 is optically charming while also adding much-needed utility to the S9 platform. This lens is small, with plenty of useful controls, and it only costs $400.

[T]he Panasonic Lumix S 40mm f/2 punches above its weight for a lens this size, weight, and price, and it becomes my favorite general-purpose prime lens for the L-mount system.

  • Amateur Photographer

This is Panasonic’s new 40mm f/2 prime lens for L-mount cameras, and perhaps the perfect combination for use with the smaller Lumix S9 cameras, as well as other Panasonic cameras, if you’re looking to make your camera setup smaller.

  • Digital Camera World

The two things I like most about the Panasonic Lumix S 40mm f/2 are its focal length and aperture rating. I find that shooting with a 40mm focal length on full-frame cameras gives me a really natural perspective, neatly bridging the gap between a 35mm and 50mm lens.

It would have been a dream combo for a lot of photographers and would have addressed one of the biggest complaints about the camera.

  • The Hybrid Shooter

[...] Panasonic Lumix S 40mm f/2 is a really nice lens on its own, but maybe even more importantly, a huge boost for the S9. I definitely intend to get one, and that means that I can only highly recommend it.
