Strong

The Panasonic Lumix GX8 is a capable, weather-sealed mirrorless camera that features a unique tilting electronic viewfinder and 4K recording capabilities. That said, the body is noticeably larger than its predecessor and lacks a built-in flash, which may deter photographers prioritizing maximum portability.

  • DPReview 82/100

The Panasonic Lumix-DMC GX8 is a hugely appealing mirrorless camera. Combining enthusiast-friendly ergonomics, an innovative tilting viewfinder and a solid feature set in both stills and video modes, the GX8 is a great all-rounder.

Panasonic is also offering three kit options in other regions, including a 14-42mm kit lens configuration, a 14-140mm kit and even a kit option with the fast 12-35mm f/2.8 lens. Unfortunately for US consumers, the GX8 is only being offered as a body-only configuration.

  • WIRED 8/10

The GX8 ends up being a very capable performer and probably my top pick in the current Panasonic micro four thirds line up. That said, if you prize portability above all else, I strongly suggest laying your hands on one of these cameras before you commit.

What many will want to know is whether the Lumix GX8 is worth its four-figure asking price. Its on-board viewfinder is a competition killer so, with that in mind, the answer is a resounding yes.

The Panasonic Lumix GX8 is bigger and spacious and feels like it was designed by a photographer. To me, that's the real selling point of the GX8 and why I would buy it.

As a regular film camera, it's a fantastic choice and I can highly recommend it, easy as that. As a streaming camera, this is another easy recommendation, like not just as a filming camera or as an A cam, this is just an all-rounded amazing camera in my opinion.

I like having a smaller camera like the Olympus OMD right there, and now I am enjoying the hell out of this camera. I had it for a couple days to almost a week now and I just love carrying this. I love the look, I love the size, I love it's a nice Rangefinder look right here.
