Reviewer Consensus
Strong
The Fujifilm XF 8mm f/3.5 R WR is a compact, weather-sealed ultra-wide-angle prime that offers a fun and dramatic perspective for photographers and videographers. While it provides excellent central sharpness and a portable design, users should be aware of corner softness and significant barrel distortion in uncorrected files.

- PetaPixel 8.5/10
Should you buy it? Yes. It's a sharp lens with nice construction and a take-anywhere size.
-
It’s a tough choice between these two, but for sheer fun and drama without breaking the bank, the XF 8mm is a really attractive addition to the lineup which will delight both photo and video shooters.
- OpticalLimits 5/10
While the Fujinon XF 8mm f/3.5 R WR has its obvious shortcomings, it's still a fun lens to use. If you require optical perfection, especially at 40mp, you should look elsewhere, though.
-
The Fujinon XF 8mm F3.5 WR is evidence that there are still some unique lenses for Fuji to build for their X-mount platform, and I feel like they’ve nailed the formula here.
-
I'd love to see the price of this lens come down to something a bit more reasonable than $800, but if you're really into the Fuji system and want the best ultra wide-angle lens available then this is certainly it, and the fun factor is certainly strong on this lens too.
-
After all it's just a prime with an averagely fast aperture. Still, if you decide to buy this lens I am sure you will enjoy it immensely.
-
This is a super lens to use, the price is reasonable and the handling second to none.
-
If you only ever use the wide end of ultra-wide-angle zooms, then the new XF 8mm F3.5 R WR prime lens makes a lot of sense - it's much smaller, lighter and crucially a lot cheaper than the comparable XF 8-16mm F2.8 R LM WR or XF 10-24mm F4 R OIS WR optics [...]
-
Fujifilm shooters have an affordable first-party ultra-wide-angle lens worthy of the system. With an impressive 8mm focal length (equivalent to 12mm on a full-frame camera), this lens allows you to capture an expansive scene that will leave you in awe.

-
Given its build quality, image output, and niche applications, the Fujifilm XF 8mm f/3.5 delivers the best value for money.
-
I think it's no coincidence that Fuji launched this lens together with the XS20, small capable camera, small capable lens.
-
[T]his is a fantastic lens and a really good addition to Fuji's prime lineup, which has been lacking ultra wide options for a long, long time.
-
With that said the X-S20 has struck a nice balance between size, weight, and performance and as a travel camera it is certainly appealing.
-
Ultimately, if you're looking for a nice wide-angle lens, like a super wide-angle lens, this sits so nicely on the front of cameras like the X-S120, the XT5.
