Reviewer Consensus

Strong

The Fujifilm X-E4 packs the same 26-megapixel sensor and processor as the flagship X-T4 into a compact, rangefinder-style body that excels at street and travel photography. Although it delivers excellent image quality and film simulations, the minimalist design sacrifices weather sealing, in-body stabilization, and several physical controls found on more expensive models.

Weighted from 25 reviewer scores

What the Reviewers Say

All 25 expert reviews, weighted into the PixelMeter score.

  • DPReview 85/100

The X-E4 is a stylish camera capable of excellent image quality and packed with useful features. It's the brand's smallest X-mount offering and a good choice for street, travel, and generalist photographers.

The X-E4 has good and bad going for it. Starting with the positives, you get the same core features as Fujifilm’s flagship X-T4, albeit without in-body stabilisation.

  • Results straight out of the camera were very good, with excellent colour reproduction, and have Fujifilm's expected colour reproduction, which many will find very pleasing.

The Fujifilm X-E4 has the same sensor as the mighty Fujifilm X-T4 and produces images of the same quality – but in reality it's a very different sort of camera.

The Fujifilm X-E4's throwback style and dial-based control is sure to please fans of rangefinder cameras and is an especially good match with XF prime lenses.

The Fujifilm X-E4 packs a lot of features and excellent image quality into a highly portable body that’s perfect for street photographers, travelers and anyone who likes to carry a camera with them regularly.

  • The smallest X-series model to date and weighing only 364 grams (442 grams with the kit lens), it has been designed primarily as a take-anywhere camera for photo enthusiasts and social media vloggers.

If you don't want the super-fast shooting of the X-T4, don't need the weather-sealing either, then the X-E4 wraps much of its higher-spec cousin's features into a smaller, tidier body with a smaller price tag.

The Fujifilm X-E4 is truly an impressive little machine. It's capable of producing the same image quality as the mighty Fujifilm X-T4 – but it's worth noting, that they're very different cameras, aimed at very different markets.

I would recommend the Fujifilm X-E4 to someone who loves street photography, really likes the vintage look and feel of this camera, and overall doesn't want to spend a ton of money.

  • Fuji X Weekly

This camera is not weather-sealed, and there’s no IBIS, which will certainly cause complaints, yet the X-E4 is a wonderful camera that is well-built and well-designed—a solid offering by Fujifilm, no doubt—but it’s not a premium model, so expectations should be kept reasonable.

Obviously I would say it's for people who want to start street photography or people who have a big camera or expensive camera and they want a secondary camera for fun, something to carry with you all the time.

The Fujifilm X-E4 leaves a lot to be desired. It sells for more money, but removes a lot of critical features from 2017's X-E3.

The fact that Fujifilm adds a dedicated auto mode on the camera always struck me as redundant, considering you can just turn the shutter speed and aperture dials to A to achieve the same thing. But in practice, flicking one dial to activate the P mode is indeed faster than two.

  • FUJILOVE MAGAZINE

[T]he new X-E4 is a very competent interchangeable lens camera from Fujifilm. Although it may not be what X-E3 shooters were looking for, this camera will appeal to photographers who want a compact yet powerful mirrorless body.

While I eventually ended up trading up to the Fujifilm X-Pro3 please do not let this fact discourage you from trying out a Fujifilm X-E4.

Because of the fact that the XE4 has this sensor makes it hard for me to think of a situation and scenario where the XE4 wouldn't be a viable option for you.
