Fujifilm’s New XC 13-33mm f/3.5-6.3 OIS Kit Lens Is Its Smallest Zoom
Alongside the new Fujifilm X-T30 III camera, Fujifilm also revealed a new X series zoom lens, the Fujinon XC 13-33mm f/3.5-6.3 OIS. It is the smallest X Series zoom lens yet.
The Fujinon XC 13-33mm f/3.5-6.3 OIS offers a roughly 20-50mm equivalent focal length in 35mm terms, making it suitable for general-purpose, travel, and landscape photography. It can also be used for environmental portraits, although lacks the fast aperture of a portrait prime lens.
The XC 13-33mm f/3.5-6.3 OIS is just 37.5 millimeters (1.48 inches) long and weighs 125 grams (4.4 ounces). It is the smallest and lightest zoom lens in Fujifilm’s lineup. The lens does extend slightly when in use, but is still just 55.6 millimeters (2.19 inches) at its longest. The lens has a 49mm filter thread.
The lens has 10 elements arranged across nine groups, including four aspherical and three ED elements. The lens has a circular nine-bladed aperture diaphragm.
An exciting feature of the new Fujinon XC 13-33mm zoom lens is its close-focusing performance. The lens can focus as close as 20 centimeters (7.9 inches) across the entire zoom range, meaning that it has a maximum magnification of 0.25x at the long end, which should enable decent close-up shots of flowers, plants, and pets.
As for its optical image stabilization (OIS), the lens promises up to four stops of shake correction, enabling the use of slower shutter speeds in low-light conditions, all else equal. Fujifilm says the lens can autofocus in as little as 0.025 seconds, which is quite swift.
“Our Fujinon XC lenses have always represented a perfect entry point into the X Mount lens ecosystem for still-centric creators,” says Victor Ha, vice president, Electronic Imaging and Optical Devices Divisions, Fujifilm North America Corporation. “Fujinon XC 13-33mm f/3.5-6.3 OIS is no different. It is perfect for those everyday moments because of its optical image stabilization and a versatile zoom range, which is ideal for everything from the big picture all the way down to the smaller details.”
