Insane GoPro Footage Shows ‘Extreme Sprint Boat Racing’

Welcome to the world of extreme sprint boat racing, also known as jetsprint, a niche sport that has just been given a spotlight thanks to an insane video posted to the GoPro YouTube channel.

The clip, uploaded a week ago (August 23), shows Jason and Sam Christ tearing it up around Ontario Speedway in Oregon in the Super Modified class.

“First time seeing sprint boat racing? Strap in and let ‪Juggernaut Sprint Boat Racing show you the ropes,” GoPro writes in the description for the YouTube video.

“Jason and Sam Christ aren’t your typical married pair. While they spend their day jobs working at the fire department and in marketing, the two spend their days off going full throttle, racing sprint boats together.”

Their custom, lightweight boat has a V8, 700 horsepower engine in it and is built to be lightweight and highly maneuverable.

The racing courses are usually constructed in a shallow water track or a purpose-built canal. The courses are designed with multiple sharp turns, straight sections, and sometimes jumps, requiring precise navigation and handling. The layout of the course is often maze-like, with a designated path that must be followed

Each boat is operated by a team consisting of a driver and a navigator. The driver focuses on controlling the boat and maintaining high speeds, while the navigator is responsible for guiding the driver through the course.

In the video, you can see the navigator holding out their arm and showing the driver the way by pointing where the next corner is. The objective is to navigate the course as quickly as possible while avoiding mistakes that could lead to crashes or disqualification.

Given the risks associated with high speeds and sharp turns, safety is a priority in extreme sprint boat racing. Boats are equipped with safety features such as roll cages, harnesses, and helmets for the driver and navigator. Additionally, medical teams are typically on standby at events.

Jason and Sam purchased their rig, the Juggernaut, back in 2019 and have made it their own in the last five years.

“Through racing, wins, wrecks, and a whole lot of excitement, this team from Southern Idaho knows power and precision,” adds GoPro.
