Wise Simultaneously Debuts World’s Biggest and World’s Fastest CFe Cards

Wise CFexpress

Wise is throwing out a one-two punch with the announcement of the first 4TB CFexpress Type B card — the world’s largest at the time of publication — alongside another lower-capacity series that caps out at a blazing 3,700 MB/s.

While it isn’t a household name in the West, Wise has been making storage solutions since 1992 and has been producing CFexpress cards for some time now and built upon that recently when it introduced its first CFexpress 4.0 cards in February. That said, these new cards are particularly impressive across the board if the company can deliver on its promises. And while Wise isn’t the first brand to release a CFexpress card with a 4TB capacity, Angelbird did it first, it is the only brand to currently offer it for sale without limitations (Angelbird says its 4TB card doesn’t work most cameras).

The high capacity card, which is branded Wise CFexpress 4.0 Type B MK-II, is also available in a 2TB capacity while the faster cards, branded CFexpress 4.0 Type B PRO Mk-II, are available in 660GB and 1.3TB. Wise says that these cards, which feature CFexpress 4.0 technology (the latest) combine to offer never-before-seen capacity as well as high performance, fitting the needs of a wide variety of photographers and filmmakers.

The Wise CFexpress 4.0 Type B MK-II uses a TLC NAND Flash while the PRO cards use pSLC.

“Both Mk-II cards are equipped with cutting-edge chips and materials, which allow the media to push the specs near PCIe Gen 4 theoretical limitation,” Wise says in a press release.

“They were aimed to be born in 2026, but now we traveled back in time to show you today,” Frank Wang, Senior Product Manager of Wise Advanced, adds.

Read and write speeds for both card series are impressive. Wise quotes the maximum read speed for the high-capacity cards as 3,500 MB/s while the PRO series cards can push to 3,700 MB/s. Write speeds are also impressive, with the high-capacity cards promising 3,000 MB/s and the PRO cards promising 3,600 MB/s.

While neither card is VPG verified (which means they have not been independently tested to hold to the company’s promised sustained write speeds; this is, however, not uncommon for the Type B format), Wise quotes the larger 2TB and 4TB cards to write at no lower than 2,400 MB/s while the faster 600GB and 1.3TB cards are promised to never drop below 3,400 MB/s when attached to media that supports those high speeds.

The Wise CFexpress 4.0 Type B Mk-II and CFexpress 4.0 Type B PRO Mk-II cards will be available at the end of May, and will MSRP at $999.99 for the 2TB capacity, $1,859.99 for the 4TB capacity, $969.99 for the 660GB capacity, and $1799.99 for the 1.3TB capacity.
