These 35mm Film Cameras are a Collab with Santa Cruz’s Killer Acid

Retrospekt, a Milwaukee-based company that refurbishes retro products including cameras, released three new versions of its FC-11 35mm film cameras that are emblazoned with the trippy artwork of Santa Cruz brand Killer Acid.

The Wisconsin product design and development studio is probably best known in the camera space for its themed refurbishing of Polaroid instant film cameras such as its Barbie-themed Polaroid 600 or the SX-70 that it plated in gold.

This time, Retrospekt is giving one of its own in-house camera designs, the FC-11 35mm camera, a themed finish through a collaboration with Killer Acid’s creator and artist, Rob Corradetti.

Retrospekt says the FC-11 was developed in order to answer the growing demand for easy-to-use film cameras that are aimed at a generation that is curious about the format but did not necessarily grow up with it. The result is a camera that has a fixed-focus lens and optional flash that works straight out of the box just by hitting the shutter button. Basically, the ease of a disposable without the waste.

Below are a few examples of what photos taken with the FC-11 look like:

“There are a lot of younger people who are interested in film photography, but didn’t grow up with it. Getting into it now can seem pretty intimidating,” says Retrospekt co-founder Adam Fuerst. “The FC-11 is our way of reducing this whole big process to its simplest components to help people get into the groove without having to learn a lot about settings and specific techniques.” With a fixed-focus lens and optional flash, using the FC-11 is as simple as lining up the shot and pressing the shutter button.

Corradetti has created three graphical themes for the FC-11 called “Mental Exploration Co.,” “Official Party Camera,” and “Art Department.” The artist also made three unique 35mm camera bags that feature Killer Acid artwork and bright soulder straps, which are available independently from the cameras for anyone who like the size and style but isn’t interested in the FC-11.

Retrospekt says this is the second collaboration between the two brands — and it won’t be the last. In early 2020, the two released a Polaroid 600 that featured Killer Acid artwork and Retrospekt and Corradetti are already planning a new instant camera bag that will be released later this year.
