Estonia based software company Retouch4Me has announced two new Adobe Photoshop tools designed to help save time by automating retouching tasks: the Frequency Separation and Mattifier Plugins.

Artificial intelligence (AI) based editing is making a massive impact on photography editing and most of the tools are actually having a positive impact on the time spent behind the computer for retouchers. The Retouch4Me team aims to deliver an AI solution to combat the most common workflow bottlenecks portrait photographers face in their everyday work with a series of individual plugins designed to target a specific area of need as opposed to an “all-in-one” overarching solution.

The two new tools are meant to add even more flexibility of that control and workflow enhancement for retouchers so help simplify retouching even further and automate some otherwise time-consuming and repetitive steps.

Frequency Separation

The free Frequency Separation plugin is rather self explanatory for those familiar with the process, but for new editors, this tool allows retouchers to separate their images into three frequency bands, (low, medium, and high) creating separate layers for each for lossless control in both 8 and 16 bit modes, automatically.

According to the company, the new plugin will save time by automating the layer creation, adds control to tailor the frequency ranges for specific images without losing any quality to the original image and resolution, and allows for manual workflow control or even automated modes that adjust overall clarity and adding a soft-focus to the image.

Mattifier

The Mattifier plugin is an entirely new AI solution that is designed to help retouchers automatically identify oily and glossy/reflective skin areas and restore the natural texture and color, “providing photographers with an effortless way to achieve flawless skin retouching.”

The company says the Mattifier plugin addresses a common challenge faced by photographers that have to deal with excessive shine or oiliness on a subjects skin. The new tool allows photographers to remove this unwanted shine and effectively rebuild the appearance of the subjects skin in various settings that would be found during harsh lighting conditions such as weddings, concerts, outdoor, and event photos.

“Our team at Retouch4me is dedicated to providing photographers with powerful tools that simplify the post-processing workflow and ensure the highest quality,” Oleg Sharonov, Founder of Retouch4me, says.

“Retouch4me Mattifier is a new addition to our range of editing plugins. It’s designed to automate the task of dealing with photos that have excessive oily shine on faces. We are convinced that this solution will save time for professionals handling large volumes of photos.”

According to the company, the new plugin can automatically identify and correct unwanted shiny skin areas on faces, — including in large group shots — by automatically recognizing faces without the need of manual selections and masking. Retouch4Me claims this can save a lot of time editors spend on photos captured using direct flash in studios, nightscapes, or event/club images as well as harshly lit sun images captured outdoors.

The Mattifier plugin can be purchased for $124 from the the company’s website and is available as a free demo for those who would like to test the plugin out first.
