Spinn is Back with a New Version of its Soft Yet Adhesive Gear Wrap
The Spinn CW.01 is a self-adhesive protective soft wrap for camera equipment that is easily folded over all manner of equipment that needs to be kept safe during transport or storage.
If that pitch sounds familiar, that’s because Spinn.Design launched the original CW.01 protective wrap last July where it raised €211,262 (about $233,583) to bring the project to fruition. Its 2023 version doesn’t change the name, but it does bring three new dimensions, a different color that the company says hides dust better, and a new XL size that is designed to cover large format camera accessories.
“The SPINN CW.01 is a tried and tested product and thousands of customers have been enjoying the benefits of the CW.01 since our first release. We have used the last year to gather a lot of feedback and have implemented the following changes: We have increased the dimensions of the existing sizes and added a new size. We have also chosen a color for the new edition that makes dust and lint almost invisible,” the company says.
Other than those changes, the premise of the product remains the same: providing a versatile cover that not only keeps equipment safe but also clean.
“Whatever you want to enclose with the Spinn CW.01 protective wrapper, its adhesive force will withstand almost any load,” the company says, and demonstrates the claim in the video below.
That level of cling doesn’t require any special effort to achieve either. Spinn.Design says that simply placing an object in the center of the cloth and folding all sides inward to form the seal is all that is required.
Described as a smooth, heavy-duty microfibre shell, the 2023 version of the Spinn CW.01 comes in three sizes: size small which is 29x29cm (11.5×11.5 inches), size medium 39x39cm (15.5×15.5 inches), size L: 49x49cm (19.5×19.5 inches) and size XL: 74x74cm (29×29 inches). As mentioned, the largest size has been added in this run to accommodate large pieces of photography equipment.
As before, the Spinn wrapper can be used as a cleaning cloth for devices in addition to keeping them safe in storage. The soft texture and large surface area allow it to gently absorb residue from glass and plastic surfaces, the company claims.
If the cloth becomes dirty, Spinn says that it can be cleaned with cold water and a neutral detergent, but shouldn’t be cleaned in a washing machine or placed in a tumble dryer. It should also not be tried with an iron or a hair dryer as it is made from 100% recycled polyester.
The 2023 version of the Spinn CW.01 wrapper is available to back on Kickstarter starting at €16 for a single wrapper or up to €119 for a full set. The company intends to deliver by July.
