This is How Long Canon Will Continue to Repair Your Camera

Canon has updated its web page that lists how long it intends to officially repair certain cameras, which can help used equipment buyers make more informed decisions. The 5D Mark III, for example, will expire in 2024 while the EOS R will be supported until 2029.

As spotted by Canon Rumors, current Canon camera owners, as well as those who might be interested in purchasing a used camera, might not know that the company regularly updates a web page that shows how long it plans to continue to officially support repair services for certain models. Based on the running list, many cameras that have long since been replaced can still be repaired through Canon, although some classics are going to see that support end soon.

Multiple DSLRs are scheduled to lose support soon, including the 70D which will drop off the list in November and the 5D Mark III which will lose support in March of next year. For example:

  • EOS-1D X Mark II: July 2026
  • EOS-1D X Mark III: TBD
  • EOS 5D Mark III: March 2024
  • EOS 5D Mark IV: TBD
  • EOS 5Ds: May 2027
  • EOS 5Ds R: August 2028
  • EOS 6D: September 2025
  • EOS 6D Mark II: TBD
  • EOS 7D Mark II: January 2027
  • EOS 70D: November 2023
  • EOS 80D: October 2027
  • EOS 90D: TBD

If a camera shows a “TBD” instead of a date, that indicates that Canon has not determined when it will stop supporting it, very likely meaning it will be able to be officially repaired for many more years.

On the mirrorless front, the aged EOS M3 and the M10 are both losing support this year while the EOS R, Canon’s first full-frame mirrorless camera, will continue to see support until 2029.

  • EOS M3: July 2024
  • EOS M5: February 2026
  • EOS M6: March 2027
  • EOS M6 Mark II: March 2029
  • EOS M10: September 2024
  • EOS M100: November 2026
  • EOS M200: TBD
  • EOS M200 (Gold): March 2028
  • EOS KissM: November 2027
  • EOS KissM II: TBD
  • EOS R: November 2029
  • EOS R3: TBD
  • EOS R5: TBD
  • EOS R6: TBD
  • EOS R7: TBD
  • EOS R10: TBD
  • EOS Ra: January 2028
  • EOS RP: TBD

Somewhat interesting is that while Canon has named the EOS R — launched in 2018 — as losing support in 2029, the 5D Mark V — launched in 2016 — is not showing a date it will be discontinued despite being older and build on Canon’s since-replaced DSLR technology. That shows that Canon doesn’t seem to have a consistent, set period of time it supports any given camera, making referencing its web page particularly important on a case-by-case basis.

Products not on the list at all “cannot be repaired” by Canon and are shown as officially discontinued on a separate web page. The list contains mostly very old cameras that haven’t seen widespread use in years. So, if there is anything to take away from this, it’s that Canon continues to support its products for many years after they are no longer the most popular buy.

The web page actually has a running list of many Canon products that range outside of cameras, too. Those who are interested in buying used printers, binoculars, lights, and more should reference the web page to check how long they will be able to expect official support.
