Canon Unveils New 77D and Rebel T7i, 18-55mm Lens, and Bluetooth Remote
Canon just announced two new DSLRs for entry-level photographers: the 77D and the Rebel T7i. Both cameras are touted as having “stunning autofocus capabilities.” There’s also a new EF-S 18-55mm kit lens and Bluetooth remote.
The 77D and the T7i share many of the same specs and features. Inside both cameras is the same 24.2-megapixel APS-C CMOS sensor alongside a DIGIC 7 image processor. ISO ranges from 100 to 25600.
Canon has focused on delivering a solid autofocus system for beginning photographers, adding a 45-point AF system in both cameras that feature all cross-type points for more precise performance. While shooting in live view, both cameras use Canon’s Dual Pixel CMOS AF system to focus with speeds as fast as 0.03 seconds.
Other shared features and specs in both cameras include a Vari-angle 3-inch touchscreen LCD on the back, 6 frame per second continuous shooting, Movie ElectroniC IS, HDR movie, Time-Lapse movie, and built-in Wi-Fi/NFC/Bluetooth.
Canon 77D
The Canon 77D is the next step now for photographers looking to upgrade from the Rebel line. It uses a more advanced 7650-pixel RGB+IR Metering Sensor that’s similar to what’s found in the 80D. There’s also an Anti-Flicker shooting mode that combats the flicker of some artificial lighting.
Unlike the Rebel T7i, the 77D features an LCD panel on the top that aids photographers in seeing the current settings while handling the controls in the area.

The Canon 77D will hit store shelves in April 2017 with a price of $900 for the body only, $1,049 when bundled with Canon’s new EF-S 18-55mm f/4-5.6 IS STM lens, and $1,499 when bundled with Canon’s EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM lens.
Canon Rebel T7i
The new Rebel T7i is the first Rebel DSLR to feature a 45-point all-cross-type AF system, Dual Pixel CMOS AF with phase-detection, and a DIGIC 7 image processor.
The camera also offers creative filters for changing the look of still photos and videos, as well as on-screen feedback that shows how changing the mode dial or adjusting settings will affect photos.

You’ll be able to purchase a Rebel T7i starting in April 2017 for $750 for the body only, $900 when bundled with the new 18-55mm kit lens, and $1,299 when bundled with the 18-135mm lens.
Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/4-5.6 IS STM
Canon has also unveiled its latest kit lens, the Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/4-5.6 IS STM. This new lens is 20% smaller than the EF-S 18-55mm f/4-5.6, and “without sacrificing image quality,” Canon claims. There’s a lead screw-type STM and 4 stops of image stabilization.
The new 18-55mm will be available in early April 2017 for $250.
Wireless Remote Control BR-E1
Canon has announced its first ever Bluetooth camera remote, the BR-E1. This new remote allows photographers to trigger their cameras from up to 16-feet away from their cameras, and the Bluetooth wireless technology overcomes issues of signal reception and line-of-sight blockage.
Both the new T7i and the 77D are compatible with the BR-E1, which will be available in April 2017 for $50.
