Olympus E-M1 Mark II Will Feature a Handheld High Res Mode: Report

Several cameras have now been released that feature some type of “high resolution mode”—the Pentax K1‘s Pixel Shift and Hassy’s Multi-Shot, for example. But it sounds like Olympus is planning to change the game with their own high res mode that will work handheld, no tripod required.

The rumor comes from the folks at 43 Rumors, and if it’s true this would be a big deal. Current high resolution modes like the ones mentioned above all work by taking multiple pictures and combining them, making a tripod a necessity.

The Olympus OM-D E-M1 Mark II is rumored to house a 20MP sensor, but if the company has managed to create a handheld high res mode either with some crazy stabilization or some other new tech, that number might just be the camera’s baseline.
