Panasonic will release a firmware update for the S5 II and S5 IIX on October 24 that adds two new features to the 96-megapixel high-resolution mode, including the ability to shoot at a maximum eight-seconds and the ability to shoot handheld.
The Panasonic Lumix S5 has just been released in New Zealand, and I received mine a few days ago. Last night, with clear skies, I took it to the south coast of Wellington, New Zealand, to see what the new advances in High Resolution mode included in the S5 could bring.
Several cameras have now been released that feature some type of "high resolution mode"—the Pentax K1's Pixel Shift and Hassy's Multi-Shot, for example. But it sounds like Olympus is planning to change the game with their own high res mode that will work handheld, no tripod required.
