Lisle, Illinois-based photographer Peter Hoffman‘s “Fox River Derivatives” project is a series of abstract photos that question mankind’s relationship with natural resources. The photographs have a strange purple bubbles and colorations across the surface that are the result of an interesting technique: these images are what you get when you burn your negatives.

Man Blows a Fireball and Burns Up His Canon 5D Mark II

Expensive camera equipment getting destroyed seems to be a reoccurring theme this month here on PetaPixel. Early in the month there was the story of the 7D getting burned up in an exploding car, and earlier this week we shared a DigitalRev video of DSLRs getting abused tested for durability.

If the DigitalRev video got you mad, then this one might infuriate you. For whatever reason, photographer Cyril Helnwein decided to fire-breathe onto his Canon 5D Mark II and burn it up, posting a video of it to YouTube’s “comedy” category.

Canon 7D Goes Up in Flames, Memory Card Escapes Unscathed

Photographer Petra Hall‘s fiancé recently bought a used MG convertible right before going on a vacation. However, on the way back from work the weekend before the vacation was to begin, something in the car exploded and the car went up in flames.

The list of gadgets in the car is enough to make a grown man weep: a Canon 7D, a Canon 24-105L lens, and a MacBook Air. Everything burned up.
