Motorola’s $1,599 Signature 27 Is the ‘World’s Fastest Android Smartphone’

After numerous teases and even a sponsored YouTube hands-on video, Motorola has finally, thankfully, fully unveiled its new flagship smartphone, the Signature 27. It is being billed as the world’s fastest Android smartphone. It’s certainly among the most expensive slab phones.
The Motorola Signature 27 runs on the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6, Qualcomm’s leading mobile chip. It has an eight-core CPU, six performance cores, and a suite of advanced features. It’s seriously powerful.
And while that’s great, and performance is definitely a significant focus for the Motorola Signature 27, that’s only part of the story. Motorola is pulling out all the stops.

“The world’s best camera system launched in 2026, outranking all other Android and iOS devices, as assessed by DxOMark.”
“The brightest display available in a smartphone.”
“The only smartphone in-market with Audio by Bang & Olufsen.”
Looking first at the camera system claim, DxOMark did, in fact, rate the Motorola Signature 27 as the second-best smartphone camera system on the market, behind only the Huawei Pura 80 Ultra, which launched last year. The Signature 27 is just ahead of the Apple iPhone 18 Pro.

As PetaPixel has written a couple of times now, the Motorola Signature 27 has a 50-megapixel Sony Lytia 910 main camera with LOFIC technology, promising expanded dynamic range and better low-light image quality, all else equal. The Lytia 910 is a relatively large Type 1/1.28 image sensor that has proven very good in the few phones that feature it.
The Signature 27 also has a 200-megapixel periscope telephoto camera with 100x Super Zoom and a 50-megapixel ultrawide camera. Motorola doesn’t say who makes these image sensors, but it does say the telephoto is a Type 1/1.56 and the ultrawide has a Type 1/2.76 sensor. These are fairly standard sizes among high-end phones.

But wait, it sure looks like there’s a fourth camera on the back of the Signature 27. Good eye, hypothetical person. This is the first ever dedicated “EVS action sensor” on a smartphone. EVS stands for “Event Vision Sensor,” and it detects pixel-level changes in light intensity in real time and works alongside Action Mode to freeze fast-action subjects more effectively. It’s like an assistant rather than a dedicated camera. It will be very interesting to see how well it works in the real world. PetaPixel plans to get its hands on the Signature 27 for a comprehensive review.
Then there’s the display, the world’s brightest. It’s a new 6.9-inch LTPO Extreme AMOLED that features Tandem OLED technology. It combines two emissive layers into one and promises up to 12,000 nits of peak brightness. Unsurprisingly, there’s a caveat. There always is. This is localized peak brightness, not full-screen brightness, and will almost assuredly be limited to very specific situations. Nonetheless, that’s crazy bright.
As for the claim that the Motorola Signature 27 is the only in-market phone with Audio by Bang & Olufsen, that’s pretty straightforward. Motorola recently signed a multi-year partnership with the audio brand, and the Signature 27 features B&O’s audio expertise in both hardware and software. Motorola touts an all-new speaker architecture that sounds truly fantastic.

To no one’s surprise, the premium, flagship Motorola Signature 27 will cost a pretty penny when it arrives on November 19. The Signature 27 is $1,599, which puts it near the very top of the slab phone price bracket, and certainly places it among the most expensive smartphones available in the U.S. Speaking of which, it’s great to see a high-end Android smartphone that isn’t made by Samsung or Google get an American release. They are few and far between.
