Apple has announced a new 14-inch MacBook Pro with M6, promising better performance, stronger AI capabilities, enhanced connectivity, and the longest battery life in a Mac.

Apple debuted M6, its first 2-nanometer process chip, in August. At the time, the M6 was only available in the updated Mac mini, a powerful, very compact desktop. The updated 14-inch MacBook Pro marks the M6’s debut in a notebook.

The M6 has a 12-core CPU and offers Apple’s fastest-ever CPU cores. The 12-core GPU promises up to 30% faster graphics than the base M5 and up to 25% faster AI workloads, a major focus for Apple and every other computer brand.

The M6 chip supports configurations up to 32GB of unified memory. Memory bandwidth has been increased to 170GB/s on the 24GB and 32GB configurations. The base model with 16GB of unified memory still has memory bandwidth of 153GB/s.

As is often the case, Apple also compares its new M6-powered MacBook Pro against its first-generation Apple Silicon machines. The M6 MacBook Pro offers up to 11 times faster graphics than an M1 MacBook Pro and up to 13 times better AI performance. Those are significant leaps.

Beyond the move to M6, the new 14-inch MacBook Pro also offers Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6, promising better and more consistent wireless performance.

The new laptop is also efficient, promising up to 24 hours of battery life under Apple’s testing conditions. This is the longest battery life of any Mac to date. The MacBook Pro with M6 supports fast charging and can reach 50% in just 30 minutes with Apple’s 96W Power Adapter.

Other than the new M6 chip and connectivity, the updated MacBook Pro is familiar. It still has a Liquid Retina XDR display with up to 1,600 nits of peak brightness. It is also available with a nano texture display.

On the I/O side, the 14-inch MacBook Pro has HDMI, MagSafe 3, and three Thunderbolt 4 ports. It also has a UHS-II SDXC card slot and a headphone jack. The laptop has a six-speaker sound system, three-mic array, and 12-megapixel Center Stage camera.

“The 14-inch MacBook Pro is the pro laptop of choice for a wide range of users — from college students, to business professionals across every industry, to multidisciplinary creators doing it all on one device,” says Shelly Goldberg, Apple’s vice president of Hardware Engineering.

”With the powerful M6 chip, we’re taking performance to the next level, with a boost in CPU speed and graphics and even more powerful capabilities for on-device AI. With its amazing battery life, remarkable Liquid Retina XDR display, and even faster connectivity, the new 14-inch MacBook Pro with M6 delivers a fantastic combination of performance, capability, and value,” Goldberg continues.
