HoverAir Teases New 8K X1 Pro and X1 Pro Max Self-Flying Drones
HoverAir is teasing new selfie-friendly drones that feature a big resolution upgrade over the original X1.
As spotted by DIY Photography, HoverAir unveiled two new versions of their unique, compact, self-flying camera drone series; the X1 Pro and the X1 Max. Both models offer substantial upgrades over the original X1 released last year.
The X1 Pro offers 4K video up to 60p, and can shoot up to 120p in Full HD. The drone features a Type 1/2 CMOS sensor and a 17mm-equivalent lens, which is well suited for the drone’s main function: flying alongside (or above) a solo, traveling content creator. The X1 Pro has an auto-follow speed up to 42 kilometers per hour (26 miles per hour), and a max tracking speed of 60 kilometers per hour (37 miles per hour).
For shooters that need even more resolution, the X1 Pro Max offers 8K video recording at up to 30p, 4K up to 120p, and also a 4K HDR mode up to 60p in 10 bit HLG. The Max version also features a larger Type 1/1.3 CMOS sensor, and a slightly wider 16mm lens.
Both drones follow suit with the same, foldable design language and overall use-case of the original X1. Shooters don’t need any drone-flying experience to operate it, as the lightweight devices are designed to operate independently of the owner.
They each have multiple different follow and tracking modes and promise a runtime up to 16 minutes. Whereas the original X1 couldn’t operate over water, the updated X1 Pro and X1 Pro Max are each rated for use over water, snow, and cliffs.
In an Instagram post, HoverAir describes the X1 Pro and X1 Pro Max as making it “easier than ever for solo content creators and YouTubers to produce impressive content.” There’s something to be said for HoverAir having a solid grasp on who these drones are for, as evident by the original X1’s extremely successful Indiegogo campaign. Being able to take off from the palm of a hand and requiring no piloting to achieve high quality drone footage should come in handy for many run-and-gun and one-man-band creators.
Pricing and availability details are still unknown, as HoverAir appears to be in the middle of some kind of teaser-based announcement campaign. Its website features the new drones alongside other blurred out items — what can only be speculated as a series of accessories for the updated X1 ecosystem.
For now, keep an eye on the HoverAir website, as new information could arrive soon.
