The Made By Google hardware event tomorrow, August 13th, will mark the debut of the Pixel 9 smartphone family. Here’s what Pixel fans can expect.

Google’s “Made By Google” event will feature the heavily-teased Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro Fold smartphones, among other possible announcements, tomorrow, August 13th. The keynote begins at 1 PM ET (10 AM PT). According to Google, the event will “showcase the best of Google AI, Android software, and the pixel portfolio of devices.”

Earlier this summer, Google released a teaser video for the upcoming Pixel 9 Pro. Titled “AI… Meet IX at Made By Google,” the video featured and outline and silhouette of the new phone design, which eagle-eyed viewers noticed includes a more-pronounced camera bump. In the run-up to tomorrow’s event, Google released first-look videos for the Pixel 9 Pro and the Pixel 9 Pro Fold.

It’s still uncertain what precise specifications the updated camera system will offer, but the increased size is immediately noticeable, especially compared to the previous Pixel 8 Pro.

The Pixel 9 Pro Fold’s folding mechanism also appears to be getting an upgrade. The hinges appear to swivel around the device’s spine, creating a flush look when opened and a squared-off look when closed. Overall, the new design is a nice polished update to the original Google Pixel Fold.

What’s even more noticeable about the teaser announcements, which will undoubtedly be the event’s centerpiece, is Google’s integration of its Gemini AI into the phones. Both teaser videos for the Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro Fold feature a prompt typed into Gemini asking it to write a “breakup letter” with the user’s previous phone.

With how Google has been integrating Gemini into the rest of its services, it’s no surprise the new phones will have AI functionality as a core element of the user interface. Google recently updated its Google Photo app to use AI searches for photo browsing, and it seems to be readying users of the Pixel 9 series to use Gemini for everyday tasks.

PetaPixel will be on-site at the event tomorrow and share hands-on impressions of all the newly announced devices as soon as possible.
