OWC’s Three New Envoy SSD Products Are Built for On-the-Go Creatives

OWC Envoy SSD NAB 2024

Alongside the new Atlas Pro CFexpress 4.0 Type A memory cards, Other World Computing (OWC) also announced a trio of new and improved Envoy SSD products. The three additions to the Envoy family include the portable Envoy SSD in 1TB and 2TB capacities, the 4TB Envoy Pro Elektron, and a 2TB Envoy Pro Mini thumb drive-style drive.

Starting with the Envoy SSD, it promises a best-in-class experience with an affordable price point and compact form factor. It is competing against products like the Samsung T9 SSD, meaning that it’s designed as a do-everything SSD that can easily slip into a backpack and withstand use in the field. It’s not waterproof like the Envoy Pro Elektron, but the Envoy SSD is still rugged, boasting an aircraft-grade aluminum housing.

The OWC Envoy SSD is a good option for recording ProRes video on iPhone 15 Pro devices.

The Envoy SSD promises sustained speeds up to 1,000 MB/s. With its USB-C connectivity, it works with a wide range of devices, including computers, cameras, and mobile devices. It can record ProRes video from iPhone 15 Pro smartphones, for example.

The all-new Envoy SSD is available to order now and will ship next month. The 1TB version is $150, while the 2TB size is $280.

Upping the capacity, performance, and durability is the Envoy Pro Elektron. The rugged drive is crushproof, dustproof, and waterproof, with an IP67 rating. It is slightly larger than the standard Envoy, but it also offers ever-so-slightly more performance on top of its improved durability. It promises read/write speeds up to 1,011 MB/s.

The 4TB Envoy Pro Elektron joins existing smaller-capacity devices. The new size, the largest in the lineup, costs $580 and is available now.

Rounding out the new Envoy SSD products is the 2TB Envoy Pro Mini, a pocket-sized USB drive. It is already available in smaller capacities, but the latest 2TB size makes it better suited to high-end photo and video workflows with lots of files and big projects. The drive is built to survive transport and shipping, making it a good choice for sending physical media worldwide. It’s also a solid option for those who want to back up their data without taking up much physical space.
