PNY unveiled the RP60, a portable SSD designed with the needs of traveling professionals in mind. Its rugged format and USB Type-C connection make it a convenient storage option for photographers and videographers on the move.

Established in 1985, PNY is a highly reputable name in the world of computer components. It is very well known for its memory, graphic cards, and solid-state drives. Many users building PCs rely on its products. Beyond computer components, PNY memory cards and flash drives are trusted by creatives worldwide. Thus far, most of the company’s SSD offerings have been internal drives for computers, with only a few external options available.

The new RP60 expands PNY’s small portable lineup. The portable SSD is also a much more robust and capable device than its existing products, perhaps showing a new focus for PNY. It features a tough silicone shell, which offers protection against drops up to three meters (9.8 feet). The IP65 rating means that it’s protected against water and dust as well, making it a capable backup option for photographers working in less-than-ideal conditions. There is even a cap over the USB-C port to keep it free of dust and debris when not in use.

As expected from a portable SSD, the RP60 is very compact. It will be easy to stow in a pocket or backpack without taking up too much space or adding much weight. The built-in clip loop allows users to secure it to straps or belt loops, ensuring it doesn’t get lost.

In terms of performance, PNY promises sequential read speeds up to 2,000 MB/s and write speeds up to 1,800 MB/s. That’s fast enough for users to edit directly from the drive when needed, and allows for swift transfers of large files. The USB Type-C connectivity makes it easy to connect to computers, smartphones, and tablets, and even many mirrorless cameras, so users can transfer files between devices with ease. It also includes Acronis True Image Data Protection software to assist with backup and recovery for more peace of mind.

The PNY RP60 is available in 1TB and 2TB capacities. Both are relatively affordable portable SSDs, with the 1TB version priced at $99.99 and the larger 2TB drive costing $179.99.
