Samsung Bringing Galaxy AI to Older Devices and Launching Galaxy Book4 in the US

Galaxy AI One UI 6.1

When Samsung launched the Galaxy S24 and S24 Ultra last month, it introduced numerous new artificial intelligence features, all under the heading of “Galaxy AI.” Although not without controversy, Galaxy AI is one of the S24’s strongest features. Samsung has announced that a new One UI 6.1 update will bring numerous Galaxy AI features to older Samsung devices.

One UI 6.1 will be available across Galaxy S23 series smartphones, the S23 FE, Z Fold5, Z Flip5, and Tab S9 series, and will begin rolling out by the end of March.

“Our goal with Galaxy AI is not only to pioneer a new era of mobile AI but also to empower users by making AI more accessible,” says TM Roh, President and Head of Mobile eXperience Business at Samsung Electronics. “This is only the beginning of Galaxy AI, as we plan to bring the experience to over 100 million Galaxy users within 2024 and continue to innovate ways to harness the unlimited possibilities of mobile AI.”

Among the Galaxy AI features making their way to compatible older devices is Circle to Search with Google, which, after being announced at Samsung’s Galaxy S24 launch event, has since made its way to Google Pixel smartphones. With this technology, users can circle an object shown on their phone and get intuitive, fast search results.

There’s also Live Translate and Interpreter, which can help people communicate across languages on a phone call or through text messaging.

Another communication feature is Chat Assist, which uses AI built into the Samsung Keyboard to help users adjust the tone of their messages. This feature is supported across 13 languages.

For photographers and content creators, Generative Edit is likely the most exciting part of Galaxy AI, and that will be coming to existing devices too. With Generative Edit, users can customize and edit their photos using AI to remove certain elements, resize and recompose, and enhance the final image.

Samsung Galaxy Book4 Series Announced

After announcing the One UI 6.1 update last night, Samsung followed up with some more news this morning, saying that the Galaxy Book4 series of PCs will be coming to new markets next week.

The Galaxy Book4 series, including the Galaxy Book4 Ultra, Galaxy Book4 Pro, and Galaxy Book4 Pro 360, launched in Korea in early January and feature Intel Core Ultra 9/7 processors, which combine a CPU, GPU, and NPU into a single package.

The Galaxy Book4 Pro and Ultra devices include a “Dynamic AMOLED 2X” touchscreen display that promises crisp color and high contrast.

Each new PC works alongside other compatible Galaxy devices to deliver a unified user experience, including features like Second Screen, Multi Control, and file sharing.

The Galaxy Book4 series will be available on February 26 in select markets, including France, Germany, the United Kingdom, and the United States. Complete details can be found on Samsung’s Galaxy Book website.
