SmallRig’s New 6,700mAh V-Mount Battery is All Kinds of Useful

SmallRig V Mount Battery

SmallRig’s new VB99 Pro is a 6,700mAh, 99Wh, 14.8V V-mount battery that supports 100W of power delivery, USB-C fast charging, and has enough juice to power high-end mirrorless cameras, computers, and tablets for hours.

The VB99 Pro is an upgrade over SmallRig’s VB99 and brings more interfaces into the lithium ion battery. SmallRig says it uses an intelligent chip that allows it to support up to 100W of bi-directional fast charging. It can be fully charged in about 2.5 hours but 10 minutes of charge allows it to bring two hours of power, which is a reduction over the previous version of 30%.

SmallRig says that a 10 minute charge of the VB99 Pro gives it enough juice to power a Sony Alpha 7C for 2.25 hours and it can charge a MacBook Pro from 0% to 57% in just 30 minutes.

As a V-mount battery, the VB99 uses a standard V-mount lock with a 1/4″-20 and 3/8″-15 thread that can meet multiple setup needs. It can also be directly connected to mirrorless cameras and a wide range of electronics from studio lights to laptops and tablets thanks to the choice of USB-C, USB-A, 12V-out, 8V-out, BP interface, and D-TAP.

It’s also small: measuring 4.2 by 2.9 by 2.2 inches and weighing 23.3 ounces, SmallRig says it is approximately 30% smaller than traditional V-mount batteries. The company also says it has a dust cover that protects the input options and is made from a “durable, scratch-resistant” mix of aluminum alloy and “fireproof PC” on the sides which makes it suitable for use in adverse conditions. The top of the battery features a color screen that displays the battery’s status in a way that is large and easy to see.

Pressing the power button wakes up the screen and shows its status and remaining charge, but it doesn’t actually turn the battery on and off.

That is really all there is to say about it: it’s a battery that has a lot of connectivity options and can hold a lot of power, all packed into a small chassis. It is worth noting that of all SmallRig’s V-Mount batteries, the VB99 Pro offers the highest wattage of fast charging and is the only one that features aluminum parts, but it isn’t the highest capacity that the company makes — that would be the VB155.

The SmallRig V99 Pro is available now for $279.
