Peter McKinnon and Nomatic Team Up Again With Stylish New Camera Bags

Nomatic x Peter McKinnon Luma Collection

Photographer Peter McKinnon and bag maker Nomatic have teamed up again for a new collection of McKinnon-branded bags.

The Luma Camera Collection by Nomatic x Peter McKinnon is now on Kickstarter and at the time of publication had already eclipsed its $100,000 funding goal by nearly $50,000. The collection includes a traditional backpack design alongside two sling bags of different sizes. With a redesigned style and new color options, the Luma Camera Collection promises to deliver “camera bags that don’t look like camera bags.”

Starting with the Camera Pack 18L, the backpack is designed for mirrorless camera systems, offering room for extra lenses, gear, and accessories. It also holds a 16-inch notebook computer in a dedicated laptop sleeve.

The Camera Pack offers three access points: side, top, and front. The main compartment includes customizable and removable camera gear organizers. Since the dividers are removable, the bag can be used as a regular backpack with a single large compartment. The backpack includes multiple mesh zipper pockets for storing small accessories and gear.

The backpack includes a roller luggage handle pass-through, an accessory shock cord, and external pockets that can be used to carry a tripod. There is also a magnetic bottle/tripod design to help keep gear safely secured in the side pocket.

Compared to the Camera Pack 25L, the new Camera Pack 18L is two inches thinner and built from the ground up for modern mirrorless camera systems, rather than larger DSLR cameras — although someone can certainly carry DSLR gear in the new bag.

The Camera Pack 18L is constructed using 900D polyester, and it uses YKK zippers. The backpack is water resistant. It starts at $185 for early bird backers and will retail for $220 when it launches to the general public.

As for the new Luma Camera Sling options, they come in 9L and 12L varieties. The larger sling bag includes a shelf divider to stack items safely and can fit a DJI Mini 4 Pro or a mirrorless camera body with an attached lens plus an extra lens. It includes two large removable dividers.

The Sling 12L is 30% deeper than the 9L size, although the smaller bag can still hold a camera, action camera, drone, chargers, microphone, or hard drive. It includes a pair of small dividers.

Both Sling bags include mesh zipper pockets, a quick access pocket, an adjustable strap, an external carrying system, a handle that is also a luggage handle pass-through, and they are water resistant.

The Camera Sling 9L starts at $95 for early bird backers, $25 off the eventual retail price. The Camera Sling 12L begins at $115 and will retail for $140.

The Luma Camera Pack 18L and both Luma Camera Slings are available in black, gray, orange, and mint green colorways. Numerous add-on accessories are also available, including a rain cover, camera tech organizer, memory card case, battery case, accessory case, and shock cords. All the new bags are slated to begin shipping in February 2024.

Complete details and additional information about backing options are available on Kickstarter.
