Olympus Unveils OM-D E-M10 Mark IV and 100-400mm f/5-6.3 Lens
As promised by various executives, Olympus isn’t done yet. Earlier this morning, the company unveiled the pint-sized OM-D E-M10 Mark IV camera for beginners, and the M. Zuiko Digital ED 100-400mm f/5-6.3 IS super-telephoto zoom for bird and wildlife photography.
The name of the game with both of these products—as with most Micro Four Thirds gear—is portability. The new camera is a pocketable, selfie-friendly ILC while the lens offers a ton of reach in an ultra-light, ultra-compact package.
Olympus OM-D E-M10 Mark IV
The E-M10 Mark IV is designed for beginners, but boasts some nice-to-have features that you typically don’t find at this price point. The 20MP Live MOS sensor and TruePic VIII processor work together to deliver improved autofocus tracking, Face and eye detection AF, and 15fps continuous shooting
The camera also features 5-axis in-body image stabilization with up to 4.5 stops of shake reduction, a flip-down LCD screen with a dedicated “selfie” mode, a 2.36M-dot OLED electronic viewfinder, 4K/30p video capture, support for USB charging, and built-in WiFi for easy image sharing.

As you can probably tell, this is a very small camera indeed. In fact, Olympus boasts that, even when paired with its kit lens, the combo weighs just over a pound, or “about the size of a standard bottle of water.”

The Olympus OM-D E-M10 Mark IV is available to pre-order starting today in Black or Black & Silver for $700 body-only, or $800 in a kit with the M. Zuiko Digital ED 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6 EZ lens. Also, from now until November 1st, buyers will get “starter kit” with a camera bag, extra battery, and 32GB memory card free of charge. Pre-orders will begin shipping on September 25th.

M. Zuiko Digital ED 100-400mm f/5-6.3 IS
The second product announced today is a new ultra-compact super-telephoto zoom lens: the M. Zuiko Digital ED 100-400mm f/5-6.4 IS.
With a 35mm equivalent focal range of 200-800mm, “superior” autofocus performance, in-lens image stabilization, and dust- and splash-proof construction, the new lens offers Micro Four Thirds shooters a lot of reach in a small package that weighs just 1,120g and measures just 205.7mm long
Inside you’ll find 21 lens elements in 15 groups, including four extra-low dispersion (ED) elements for suppressing “color bleeding,” two Super High Refractive (Super HR) lenses and two regular HR lenses. These are paired with Olympu’s ZERO (Zuiko Extra-low Reflection Optical) coating for reduced ghosting and flare.
Finally, close focusing distance is 1.3m throughout the zoom range, Focus Stacking is supported, and the lens features a maximum magnification of 0.57x for “telemacro” shooting.

The lens already offers quite a bit of reach, but if you want even more Olympus points out that the new 100-400mm f/5-6.3 is fully compatible with their 1.4x and 2x teleconverters, which will transform the lens into a 280-1120mm f/7.1-9.0 or a 400-1600mm f/10-f/13, respectively.
