Canon has announced three new RF-mount lenses, including the RF 200-800mm f/6.3-9 IS USM super-telephoto zoom lens for full-frame Canon EOS R-series mirrorless cameras.
Alongside the Sigma 10-18mm f/2.8 DC DN Contemporary lens for APS-C mirrorless cameras, Sigma has announced the development of a new full-frame f/2.8 zoom lens, the Sigma 70-200mm f/2.8 DG DN OS Sports.
In photography, the “cutting edge” doesn’t always happen with the most expensive gear; the ability to produce a quality lens at a price lower than ever is just as innovative. Canon’s RF 100-400mm f/5.6-8 IS USM is my case in point.
As a landscape and travel photographer, I often carry around an ultra-wide-angle 14mm lens and the Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8. Last week I was able to test the latest addition to the Tamron series for full-frame mirrorless cameras: the 70-300mm f/4.5-6.3 Di III RXD. As promised by various executives, Olympus isn't done yet. Earlier this morning, the company unveiled the pint-sized OM-D E-M10 Mark IV camera for beginners, and the M. Zuiko Digital ED 100-400mm f/5-6.3 IS super-telephoto zoom for bird and wildlife photography.
Wildlife photographers who shoot with Sony have been limited when it comes to lens choice. The Sony 100-400mm GM was released in early 2017, but the price ($2,500) was out of reach for many. Last year, Sony released the 200-600mm G, which was a bit more budget friendly ($2,000) but is a pretty large lens to carry around on wildlife hikes.
After some very accurate leaks last week, Sigma has officially revealed four products today: an affordable 100-400mm f/5-6.3 telephoto zoom lens for full-frame mirrorless cameras, two teleconverters for L-Mount mirrorless lenses, and a USB dock for Sigma's L-Mount and EF-M Mount mirrorless lenses.
Photographer and YouTuber Evan Ranft recently decided to try something unusual. He wanted to see what would happen if he tried to use a 200-600mm lens for... street photography. And while the idea might sound silly on the face of it, you may be surprised by some of the results.
