“Master of Photography” is a new TV show that aims to do for photography what American Idol did for singing. Created by Sky Arts, it’s the first TV talent show in Europe focused on photography.
The show will contain 8 episodes spanning 8 weeks and feature 12 contestants who will compete in challenges for the title Best New European Photographer and a prize of €150,000, the largest ever offered in a European photo contest. The winning photo will also be given to a prestigious museum for display.
The show will feature the critique of 3 judges: Rut Bless Luxemburg, Oliviero Toscani, and Simon Frederick. 10 internationally recognized photographers, including Alex Webb, Bruce Gilden, and David LaChapelle, will also be joining the show as guests to offer their insights.
Here’s a trailer for the new show published by Leica, which signed on to be the official “technical provider” (note: there’s some nudity):
If you’re subscribed to Sky Arts, you can watch the first episode of Master of Photography on July 21st, 2016.
