Moscow-based photographer Nikolay Tikhomirov describes the photographs he’s taken as “art inside me” — and that’s just what they are, art.

One of his collections, dubbed ‘Zero Gravity‘ is series of images featuring women in Earthly environments floating as if they’ve escaped the confines of our planet’s gravity. Some appear to be well aware of their surroundings, whilst others are seemingly in the midst of a slumber, oblivious to their dream-like condition.

For her project Mirrors, photographer Traci Griffin explores the concept of symmetry by photographing trees in various locations, and then mirroring the sweeping branches while omitting most of the trunks.

The resulting photographs look like strange shapes, formations, and even creatures floating in midair.

Camera Synchronized to Chopper Blades Creates Amazing Illusion

Here’s an old-ish video that’s been making the rounds again lately (viral videos are like viruses — they don’t go away very easily). Titled “Camera shutter speed synchronized with helicopter blade frequency,” it shows what can happen when your camera is synchronized with the RPM of a helicopter’s rotor blades. The resulting footage makes the helicopter look as though it’s just floating in the air!

For its 2010 lookbook, Swedish fashion brand Courtrai Apparel created some gravity-defying shots of a guy floating in a featureless room. Rather than use fancy computer trickery, they used the same perspective trick as the Carl Kleiner project we shared a couple days ago.

Photographer David Nemcsik of Budapest, Hungary has a beautiful project titled the “Levitation Project” that features surreal images of people floating in midair in a lying up down position. The subjects are Nemcsik’s friends, and the locations were picked by asking them this simple question: “where were you in your last dream?”.
