Canon Canada Hikes Lens Prices 20% On Almost Everything

Canadian Canon users woke up yesterday to some unfortunate news. The gear price hike confirmed by Canon at the beginning of March has taken effect, and the price of almost every Canon lens in the Canon Canada store has increased by 20%.

If you follow Canon Rumors, you saw this one coming a month ago when they shared the email below.

“Due to the ever changing market situation it has become necessary for Canon Canada Inc to increase prices on a selection of DSLR and lens products effective April 1st,” reads the email to CPS members. “We have done our best to avoid this change for as long as possible but are no longer able to continue to absorb these costs.”

That “market situation” they’re referring to is the precipitous drop in the value of the Canadian Dollar over the past year in particular.

Combine that with the fact that Canada doesn’t have minimum advertised pricing (MAP), and 2015 was the best year ever for American Canon users who wanted to get some of Canon’s most expensive gear at a discount.

Alas, today’s price hike all but eliminates that advantage, and makes Canadian users’ purchases sting that much more. To see the new prices for yourself, visit the Canon Canada website.
