The Focus Shifter — A Simple Lens Mountable Follow Focus

The focus shifter — which, for now, is also going by the name “lens shifter” — is a simple, lens-mounted, adjustable follow focus that works by attaching to the focus ring on lenses between 56 and 98mm in diameter. Using the attachable marker board you can then mark your focus and transition points in advance, shifting between them with ease when the time comes.

Here’s the Kickstarter video by creators Daniel Bauen and Jake Snowden for those of you who want a little bit more information:

If you like what you see and you want to support these guys in making the focus/lens shifter a reality you can head over to their Kickstarter page and fork over at least $45 towards the name of your choice. At the rate the project is growing in popularity we’re fairly certain they’ll reach full funding soon; the only question left at that point will be whether the final product will be called the focus shifter or the lens shifter…

Worthy idea but I think the lever itself is too large.

rather than forking out $45 why not just use a $5 adjustable jar opener from

  • Miguel Canas

Look up LensStrap on e-bay. They even have a video that explains (quite well) why the jar opener does not work. (No commercial interest, just a satisfied customer).

Definitely had this idea about 2 years ago. Ah well, another one down the drain into the pipe (dream).
