Rally Photographer Cheats Death and Starts Shooting

There’s a well known photography joke that goes, “If you saw a man drowning and you could either save him or photograph the event, which lens would you use?” While it’s certainly morbid and pretty absurd, there’s plenty of examples of photographers having a “shoot first” mentality in a time of crisis. The rally racing photographer seen in this video provides one such example.

I wonder if he had been as keen on shooting the event, if the car had actually hit him.

Probably not a pro photographer, he forgot to get shots of the rescue. ;^)

Only wish I could’ve photographed him getting hit instead of rushing to help him. I’m sure, as a photographer, he’d appreciate that.

Awesome :D I’m glad that concrete was as solid as he thought.

what a stupid photographer – he was lucky not to be dead.
Next time, he know where he should stand little bit far from course, and use a tele zoom.

it is the first time i saw this video with the ending (previously I saw it with man just taking few pictures)…. thx Michael

The real question is the photographer shooting this sequence !!
The car comes straight at his location and moves the camera to the get the rescue. If he was on a platform the car and debris went under him.

Is the photographer really that lucky/stupid? The fact that he immediately starts shooting suggests he’s somebody who has shot races before. The fact that he’s standing *BEHIND* a big wall (that protects him from cars going astray) is not a coincidence I think. To me it looked like the guy knows what he’s doing, survived the crash because he picked a protected spot and then did what he was there for—get some news-worthy pictures.
