I have some concerns I’d like to address in your recent open letter regarding the Photo Bill of Rights (BoR). I am a 36-year-old white female editorial and commercial photographer. I am a member of APA and a Houston chapter board member for ASMP.
Over the past 24 hours, several reports claimed to share the "leaked" price of the upcoming Canon EOS R5 based on a listing on an Australian retail site. However, as far as we can tell, this was not a "leak" but a simple mistake (or brilliant marketing stunt).
Recently I came across a blog post that essentially blamed professional photographers for creating boring stock photos, and that boring stock photos are the key reason that companies should be using User-Generated Content.
Over the past few weeks, two separate pieces have been published here on PetaPixel attacking YouTube photographers and camera reviewers. Whether it be this video from Mik Milman, or this latest piece from Bob Locher, the low hanging fruit seems to be the idea that the "general YouTube camera reviewer" has no idea what they're talking about. This is ridiculous, and wrong.
The idea of this article came from a recent photo series I saw on BoredPanda about viral photos people thought were real but were fake. It reminded me of some of my photos people always call fake.
There’s an article, published here on PetaPixel, that’s currently making the rounds on social media. It's called “A Disturbing Trend in Photography.” In it, long-time photographer and photo educator Neal Rantoul makes the argument that the art photography of today is heavy on words and light on quality.
The photographer Sator has created quite a buzz with his article "Why Sony’s Full Frame Pro Mirrorless Was a Fatal Mistake." I thought long and hard about whether I should response to this or not. I think there are many things omitted in his analysis and I want to point out some of those points.

I read a blog post of yours titled "Advice to Aspiring Full Time Photographers" reposted on PetaPixel.
It’s filled with lots of exciting tidbits like:
“I think being a full-time photographer is overrated.”
The word "rooftopping" first appeared in a book called "Access All Areas" in 2005 by author Jeff Chapman. In this book Jeff refers to this activity as an offshoot of urban exploration. It's been called skywalking, roofing, and most recently New York Magazine called the people who do this "outlaw Instagrammers.”
Call it what you will, people have been going on roofs for decades (and probably even longer) for their own reasons, from Dan Goodwin's stunts to Philippe Petit's rope walk across the World Trade Center towers. Exploring rooftops is nothing new.
The Terry Richardson debate can be summed up in two sayings, one used by the anti-Richardson army and the other used by the pro-Richardson crowd: "There's no smoke without a fire" and "Tried and convicted in the press." That many allegations can't just spring up out of nowhere, says one group, while the other argues that undue amounts of sensational press attention does not evidence make.
However, for the first time ever, Richardson himself is speaking out, addressing the Allegations in an op-ed published by the Huffington Post in which he calls the entire ordeal an "emotionally-charged witch hunt."
