Basic feature-set aside though, the X-M1 is a solid performer that remains fun to shoot with and won’t let you down – it’s also the cheapest way to enjoy the superb X-Trans sensor and the small but high quality range of X-mount lenses.

The Olympus PEN E-P5 is a flagship model worthy of the name. It does exactly what manufacturers and retailers expect of a premium product – makes you yearn for it, regardless of whether you need or can afford it.
As someone who’s been using mirror-less cameras a great deal over the past year I admit to approaching the EOS SL1 / 100D with some skepticism.
The Canon EF 40mm f2.8 STM is a very interesting addition to the Canon EF lens catalogue.
The Nikon D7100 is a worthy successor to the D7000 and a sufficiently capable camera to fill the vacancy at the top end of Nikon’s DX range for all but the pro sports photographers or studio strobists out there.
It’s a beautifully designed and engineered camera that’s a pleasure to use, well deserving of Cameralabs’ Highly Recommended Award.
If you can live with those, to be fair, minor pitfalls, the D5200 offers a level of quality and performance that’s hard to beat at this price point.
This-all round versatility is something that’s not easy to achieve but Olympus has pulled it of with great style and panache, a feat which earns the E-PL5 our Highly Recommended award.
The EOS M is Canon’s long-awaited entry into the mirror-less compact system camera market.
With the Rebel T4i / EOS 650D Canon has neatly addressed these issues.
It goes beyond what we’ve traditionally come to expect from an entry-level DSLR with more features including a high resolution sensor and Full HD video with manual exposure control and advanced audio features.
It’s well-built, functional and a joy to use, and even with focusing issues is thoroughly deserving of a Cameralabs Highly Recommended award.
Whichever category you personally fall into, at Cameralabs we believe it’s a very important product which deserved an extended review period.
Ultimately though, the Canon EOS 5D Mark II is a very impressive DSLR which even with the caveats and competition is one we can confidently award our highest recommendation.
