What the Reviewers Say

All 6 expert reviews, weighted into the PixelMeter score.

  • PetaPixel 8/10

As much as the f/1.4 lenses might make more practical sense, the Samyang 85mm f/1.8 is optically great and an excellent option for photographers who want the lightest option possible.

The single biggest reason to choose Prima 85mm is the compact size and weight. I can’t think of a better 85mm optically that comes in this small of a package.

  • LensTip

If you take into account its price, amounting to $400, it becomes a really excellent option for Sony mirrorless cameras owners. It is noticeably better than the more expensive Sony FE 85 mm f/1.8 and its small dimensions and weight are an important bonus.

It’s a great little lens that’s excellent value for money. I just wish it was available in more mount options, instead of only being for Sony cameras.

It’s unusual for me to buy a lens as spontaneously as I did with the Samyang AF 85mm f/1.8 P FE, and I can’t recommend it highly enough.
