Wedding Photographer is Filmed Eating Alone in a Cupboard

A person dressed in dark clothing sits in a chair at a makeshift dining setup in a storage area with stacked shopping baskets and other supplies. They are eating food from a takeout container placed on a wooden desk next to a clear plastic bin.

A wedding photographer filmed himself eating dinner in a cupboard alone to show that his job isn’t always glamorous.

Wedding photographer Josh Huggett went viral on TikTok earlier this month when he shared a lighthearted clip that revealed the reality of being a wedding photographer.

In the video, which has amassed 3.4 million views, Huggett can be seen dining solo at a wedding, in a desolate backroom away from the other guests, alongside the caption: “Behind all the glitz and glamor is a vendor eating dinner in a cupboard alone.”

Huggett’s video drew thousands of comments from TikTok users and ended up starting an active discussion online about where wedding photographers should be sat on the big day.

‘Wedding Photographers Should Be Treated Better Than Guests’

The majority of viewers were left saddened by Huggett’s clip. Many said that a photographer was one of the most important people to a couple on a wedding day and declared that they deserved a table and “should be treated better than guests.”

“My photographer is getting a seat at the table. No one is eating alone on my wedding day,” a TikTok user comments.

Another individual writes: “Wedding photographers are people who capture your greatest memories. They deserve a table with the couple.”

However, some shooters said that they prefer eating alone on a hectic wedding day: “As a wedding photographer… this is my favorite time!”

‘The Reality of Being a Wedding Photographer’

Huggett, who has been a wedding photographer for six years, says he just wanted to explore some of the misconceptions around his job in the TikTok video.

“It was just a quick funny video showing the reality of being a wedding photographer and that it isn’t as glamorous as people may think,” Huggett, who is based in Adelaide, Australia, but travels for shoots, tells PetaPixel.

“I mean, it’s a pretty glamorous job most of the time, we get to spend the best day of people’s lives with them while everyone is looking their best, eating their best, and venues are also looking their best.

“However, there are lots of not-so-glamorous parts of the job that people don’t see like eating on the floor as well as the hours of editing in dark rooms drinking nothing but cold coffee and eating ramen.”

Huggett, who has become a hit on TikTok for his funny and unconventional videos of day-to-day life as a wedding photographer, says it was fascinating to read the debate that the clip sparked on TikTok.

While many brides-to-be were horrified to see Huggett eating alone in a cupboard, several photographers saw a solitary meal as a much-needed opportunity to decompress or recharge their social battery on a client’s wedding day.

“There were big responses from both people getting married and also wedding vendors,” Huggett says.

“The comment section was split half with couples saying they would sit the photographer at the table and the other half with everyone else and photographers saying that they want to sit alone.

“It was an interesting read to see how different everyone sees the same situation based on which side of the video they are.”

More of Huggett’s work can be seen on TikTok, Instagram, and his website.
