YouTube Will Allow You to Generate AI Imagery for Video Backgrounds

YouTube has announced a new feature that will allow creators to generate AI images and use them as a video backdrop.

The Google-owned video-sharing website announced a raft of new artificial intelligence (AI) tools at the annual Made on YouTube event on Thursday.

Dream Screen will be released later this year and will allow users to harness the power of generative AI to create a photo or video background.

The AI-generated material can be placed in the background of a YouTube Short video. It will work much the same way as a typical AI image generator; the users can type in prompts to generate the background of their choice and YouTube intends on letting users remix and edit the existing material.

In the above example video, YouTuber @benoftheweek creates a “lava lamp lake” background complete with dolphins demonstrating the neverending possibilities presented by AI. He also makes backgrounds using the prompts “lazer lizard island, Paris penguin week, popcorn volcano, disco forest, and jellybean beach.”

AI to Help YouTubers in Other Ways

In a screenshot shared by YouTube, the platform showed an AI-powered future with a tool that suggests video ideas. The new AI feature in YouTube Studio will suggest topical ideas and even outline future videos.

The Verge notes that the AI suggestions will be personalized to individual creators and factor in what is trending with audiences.

“The process of developing an idea for a video is time-consuming, and it can feel a lot like hit and hit or miss guesswork until the video finally posts and comments start rolling in,” says YouTube CEO Neal Mohan. “This insight is just a jumpstart to the creator’s process”

Mohan used travel content creator Mahna Ghafori as an example and showed her YouTube Studio with video ideas about Portugal. “Now, Mahna is freed up to think about all the ways she’ll make the video in her own style,” adds Mohan.

Further AI tools include a music recommendation system that will analyze the written description for a YouTube video and suggest an appropriate audio file. It is also adding an AI dubbing feature that allows creators to dub their videos into foreign languages.
