OnePlus Reveals Specifications of its Upcoming Flagship Smartphone

OnePlus 10 Pro specifications

OnePlus has revealed a scant few new details about its upcoming flagship smartphone and despite what the design reveal may have indicated, it looks like the OnePlus 10 Pro will feature what looks to be the same triple camera array as its predecessor.

OnePlus is drip-feeding information about its upcoming new flagship smartphone and what has been released to the press to this point is pretty meager. Yesterday, the company revealed the design of the OnePlus 10 Pro but basically nothing else, leaving interested parties left to question anything beyond the number of cameras, the dual-color flash, and the new matte finish to the back of the device.

On that note, in additional reporting by Input’s Ray Wong, it is apparently made of what OnePlus describes as “micro crystals” that are designed to look like “glittering sand grains.”

What is PDT 50T?

While the company did not respond to requests from PetaPixel to explain the “PDT 50T” that can be seen in the center of the flash module, Wong did manage to get them to respond. Apparently, the P is supposed to stand for “phone,” the 2D stands for “second-generation Hasselblad camera for mobile,” and the 50T refers to the 50-megapixel triple rear camera.

As pretentious as that might sound, it does fall in line with how Hasselblad likes to name its cameras (for example, the X1D-50C or the H6D-400C), so it does make some sense here since OnePlus has partnered with Hasselblad to co-create its smartphone cameras.

What doesn’t make a lot of sense is how OnePlus is referring to the rear camera array as a 50-megapixel triple rear camera because only one of the three is 50-megapixels. According to the specifications sheet that OnePlus is allowing press to share today, the OnePlus 10 Pro will feature a 48, 50, and 8-megapixel triple camera setup. If that sounds familiar, it’s because it should: that is the exact same specification as the OnePlus 9 Pro released last year. Well, almost exact; the OnePlus 9 Pro also had a 2-megapixel monochrome sensor which seems to be absent in the 10 Plus.

The front-facing camera is getting a nice resolution bump to 32-megapixels, however. While most photographers will consider it to be the least important of the cameras on a smartphone, it’s a solid improvement.

The updates seem pretty modest, but considering the main complaint PetaPixel’s Ted Kritsonis had in his review of the OnePlus 9 Pro wasn’t the hardware but rather the software, if OnePlus can iron out those kinks and up the ante on the computational front, the OnePlus 10 Pro could still end up being great even with the same cameras.

OnePlus will very likely reveal more information on the OnePlus 10 Pro over the next few days, which will hopefully contain more detail.
