Yongnuo is Developing a Mirrorless Camera
Guess who’s planning to join the mirrorless camera war? Yongnuo, the Chinese company best known for creating cheap clones of popular Canon and Nikon lenses.
The announcement contains an image of the camera, which looks like a thick smartphone with a Yongnuo YN 14mm f/2.8 lens mounted to the front — presumably using a lens adapter.
Yongnuo is asking its customers and fans to vote on two different possible names: 4G Camera, and Smart Camera. Based on those names, it appears the camera will be a cellular network-connected camera loaded with a mobile operating system (which is seen on the large touchscreen that covers the entire back side).
The company says it’s also open to other suggestions for an “appropriate product name.”
Yongnuo will be announcing the winning name through its social media channels in January 2019, so the official announcement for the camera will likely be on or after that date. 100 participants in the contest will win a Yongnuo YN 50mm f/1.8 lens for Canon or Nikon, valued at around $50.
