These Shots Helped Me Win the British Army’s Photo Contest

p458367056-5

My name is Timothy Jones, and I’m a Bristol-based photographer currently serving as a British Army Photographer. I was also just awarded Photographer of the Year by the Army Photographic Competition 2016 for my photos showing military life over the past 12 months.

It all started when I submitted photo entries to a few categories in this year’s competition. This is the second time I have entered the annual photo contest in my four years of being an army photographer.

I entered some of my stuff into these categories: Portrait, Sport/Adventure Training, “Soldiering”, Telling a Story Portfolio (4 photographs), Portfolio (6 photographs), Best Online Image voted by the public, and Online short form video (Social Media). You can enter twice into each category.

As professional army photographers, we could enter into the pro category. If you were in the army, cadets, or employed by the Ministry of Defence, you could enter into the amatuer catagory.

I ended up winning the Best Portfolio category with this lot of photos! This was the second of the two portfolios that I entered.

Here are some of the photographs I submitted this year:
