Samyang Teases Announcement for March 21st, Possibly Debuting AF Lens Line

About a month ago, we reported on rumors that Samyang was going to start making AF lenses under an all new logo “very soon,” and it looks like “very soon” is finally about to arrive.

In a teaser image posted yesterday to the company’s Facebook (see above), Samyang simply says “coming soon” above the date March 21st and the (soon-to-be old?) Samyang logo. Accompanying the teaser is the message “New stuff from Samyang coming soon, really soon. Stay tuned!”

With that little official information, it’s hard to draw any surefire conclusions, but the consensus seems to be that AF lenses are on the way.

Another interesting bit of speculation courtesy of SLR Lounge is that this might finally be the debut of the long-awaited Samyang 50mm f/1.2, but we’ve not seen any other coverage to corroborate this so it might just be wishful thinking.

What do you hope comes of this announcement? We won’t have to wait long to find out, but feel free to share your Samyang-related hopes in the comments down below.

    Please dont!

    Why not?

    Please do!

Cuz gonna be garbage anyway.Sigma tacky ,tamron tacky, and now here we have a 3rd one.Waste of money=waste of your work=waste of life.

  • Ian Jackson

seriously? have you not seen sigma’s 35mm f1.4 Art lens? or the new 50mm f1.4 Art lens coming out? clearly you dont know what you are talking about and you are living in the past.

  • BDWT

You do realize that the Tamron 24-70 2.8 VC was the lens of the year, for 2013, right? I own one, I’ve shot with both, compared them side by side and the Tamron blows the Canon out of the water in sharpness, price and overall value for your money (Canon released the mkII of the 24-70 and it didn’t even have stabilization, that’s a make a break deal for lenses in that price range).

Not to mention the new, beautiful lenses Sigma has been making…

Although, if you want to continue paying inflated prices on inferior products just because they have a red ring on them, go ahead. It’s your money.

  • Metasepia

I dont know…but flagship products and peak performance doesn’t count for me,any more.

  • BDWT

Brand loyalty is hard to break, I get that – but it’s the false sense of superiority that some of these people have because they shoot with all high end Nikon or Canon glass, which is really annoying. Let’s leave him be, clearly no sense in arguing with this person, we’ll “lose” every debate, I’m sure of it ;)

You are awesome! Please dont change. You keep buying stuff based on your precised bias.

  • greenarcher02

And here I just bought the Samyang 7.5 fisheye. O_O Oh well.

  • Johnny

I am pretty sure that you don’t really need AF on a 7.5mm lens for APS-C sized sensors.

  • Rick

Yes, that’s correct. I have a manual Samyang 8mm 3.5 Fisheye on a APS-C body (Canon 600D) and before taking the shoot I just need to focus using the scale distance ring. And don’t forget optimum sharpness happens when stopping down to f5.6 or f8 so even more depth of field. Greetings from Lisbon :)

Any news yet about the new 10mm 2.8 for APS-C?
