Photographer Jordan Matter‘s Dancers Among Us photo series and book has earned him the kind of viral fame that many a photographer dreams of, but more inspiring than his success is his attitude and the joy he seems to take in his work.
The above behind-the-scenes video was put together by filmmaker Martin Bentsen, who got the opportunity to follow Matter around one day as he photographed a dancer for Dancers Among Us and an athlete for his followup Athletes Among Us.
In the video, Matter reveals that his passion for photography began with a bike ride up a mountain. When he got to the top, he realized that he had no idea how to capture the beauty that he was seeing with his cheap little camera, and so he took a photography class. When he saw his first print come up in the developer, he says he had a “hallelujah moment.”
Matter has been carrying around a camera ever since and, watching him work, you can see why he hasn’t stopped… he’s having a blast! Of course, this is a photographer who has already achieved a high level of success, so he has plenty to be happy about. But did the attitude follow the success, or the other way around? We’ll let you discuss that one.
