Dexter the Cat Throws a Mouse

How’s this for a unique pet photograph? Angelo DeSantis of Berkeley, CA was photographing his cat Dexter with a Canon 5D Mark II when he snapped this once-in-a-lifetime shot that appears to show Dexter throwing a mouse. It pays to have a fast shutter finger.

    Looks like a leaf.

Peta is going to go after the cat for mouse abuse.

    Dexter!
Out of all the names in the world…:)

  • Helbnt

    I think it’s just a leaf…

    Poor mouse ;(

I was once playing with my cat, throwing cards and watching the reaction. Similar luck, I have a photo of a cat seemingly splattered over the door, legs splayed, reaching for the cards.

I’m glad cats have us as pets.

Wow… proof that there is cat-fu…

Hope it got run over shortly after that!

What kind of jerk would say such a thing? You see a lion eating a antelope on tv and immediately the first thing out of that glory hole of a mouth is “I hope it gets stomped by an elephant”? I hope you get cratered by a truckload of carrots just for eating anything besides fruit.

  • Guest

you know, lions eat those antelopes. neighbor’s cat turns my yard into a litter box, and tries to kill every living thing for fun. doesn’t bother eating them, though.

The cat has a look like “Oh noes I threw my dinner away”

  • Sunnydez

Wow!  I love that his name is Dexter.  Maybe that was an evil mouse that deserved to die.

  • Rick James

Did you hear the new joke?

“What did the four claws say to the face?”

  • Toubab

With the fast shutter, we can definitely see the dark passenger…

Cats don’t usually seem so active and crazy and that’s why they captivate our attention. Great shot! This is one great example of why having a camera handy really can help your save great and not so great moments in your life.

“tries to kill every living thing for fun. doesn’t bother eating them” – that’s instinct, not fun, and a well-fed kitty has no need to eat it’s kill.  A well-fed zoo lion would do essentially the same thing.   Cats have only been domesticated for 9 or 10 thousand years – way less than dogs.  That, plus far less-aggressive breeding than dogs makes them much closer to their wild cousins.

Sorry about the litterbox thing, that’s instinct too.

(that said, I keep my cats indoors – much better for them, and no worry about psycho neighbors doing them harm)

Cat’s are way more useful, that’s one mouse that won’t be chewing into someone’s house/shed/barn and crapping all over everything. Don’t get me wrong, I love my dog- but my cat took out the entire neighborhood gopher population- no more holes in the yard. The dog… just tries to eat other animals poop.

  • Cassia

My cat’s name is Dexter too! I approve. :)

  • http://www.thisisjoe.net YJawhar

Yeah, I guess that that’s more probable than blood! :P

  • Pino

Winning, it’s sad but true. Cats own us, not the other way around.
