Creative Engagement Photo Showing Superhuman Strength

San Diego-based wedding photographer Aaron Willcox won 1st place in an engagement photo contest with this shot showing a feat of incredible strength. No Photoshop trickery or invisible wires were used in making this image (nor does the guy have Superman-esque strength). Can you figure out how it was done?

Ok … everybody down on the floor. (yawn)

They’re lying on the ground at the foot of some steps. The guy has his feet on the riser of the lowest step. Old trick.

Lying on the ground maybe? No, it is too obvious…
    ,-)))

Yes. For one thing, the lighting gives it away. The light appears to be coming up from the ground. For another, those steps are proportioned all wrong. Too tall and too shallow.

Hmmm steps going up to a blank wall ??? :)

Love it. The couple is laying on the ground, but the illusion is still amazing!

Some photogs sure can be cynical. Yeah it’s an old trick, but still fun. Jeeeze!
Am I a poser ass bitch cause I shoot with old Box cams and film? I mean people have been doing that since forever right?

They’re both lying on the ground and shot from a high vantage point. Classic

everyone is jaded in this industry. keep having fun, one day you’ll hate your life too.

Do we really need another comment about how they’re on the ground?…oh wait.

    NEVER!!!!!

I just hate my real life job ;)

Okay, since people are tired of that explanation, here are some others:

    – They both just jumped off the balcony above and are milliseconds away from crashing onto the steps and sustaining horrible injuries. Some people will do ANYthing to get an unique engagement picture.

    – The guy doesn’t have Superman-esque strength, but the girl does. She is balancing on her shoulders on a brick just visible under her head, while holding him up with her feet. The picture, obviously, is printed upside-down. A very simple illusion, really, once you know the secret.

    – There’s no Photoshop trickery; they used The GIMP instead.

    – They’re both members of the Tea Party and believe that government revenues will rise magically if taxes are eliminated on the rich. Compared to that trick, this one is easy.

[and for those offended by the above]

    – They’re both liberal Democrats and believe that the national debt can be eliminated by having the government spend more money than it takes in. Compared to that trick, this one is easy.

    – That’s not his real fiancée; it’s a blow-up doll filled with helium. You don’t want to know about the honeymoon plans.

It could be possible that they’re on the wall and she’s glued to it, but I’d find it very weird that there’re some stairs that lead to a wall.

lemme guess they’re lying on the ground…WOW!!!!

There are steps because you have to push through that wall to reach Platform 8-3/4 and catch the Hogwarts Express.

Who’s to say that man isn’t actually that strong?

No kidding. Why are photogs such technical pricks lately? What every happened to the spirit of photography?

  • Solis48

Why can’t the cynics say that, even though it’s a technique that is well-known, it was done well? Boneheads…

  • Jens Fischer

Is it just me or does the photo not really have anything to do with engagement?

  • Paul Van

Velcro – you can do anything with Velcro!!

  • http://profiles.google.com/slimspidey Spider- Man

No it’s duct tape and he just shopped it out…

  • Bdougher

    1st place for this?? :/

  • Rx

On another note, she’s way out of his league. This is sure to end with him crying alone in a bar…

Had I been beaten into the second place by this shot, I still would not have taken it lying down :-))

It’s thanks to Tampax… because with tampax you can climb, run, exercize, swim, and i’m sure you can gain stamina and be prepared for feeling great and have Austin powers… :)

Some people just love to suck the fun out of everything….

I’d guess he’s a wedding pro, his right arm muscles hardened to steel by weekly 20 hours sessions of carrying professional gear, camera, lens and flash… Can you do that?

  • Bbodine2005

Of course they are lying on the ground!  I don’t think that is the point of the shot.  It is supposed to be something fun and quirky…which it does accomplish.  Why all the negativity and attitudes?
