Don't have the time or money to visit a photo exhibition you're interested in? In the future, paying a visit will be as simple as strapping a virtual reality headset to your head.

At EyeEm's Photo Hack Day 4 in Berlin recently, one of the apps developed was called Rooms. It's a virtual reality Android app that lets you enjoy photos in a virtual photo exhibition, and the app gives us a taste of what may soon be commonplace in the world of art.

Each year, hundreds of hackers developers descend on Berlin for EyeEm's hackathon Photo Hack Day in hopes of walking away with the top prize and moving the world of photography forward. In 24-hours, developers have to take a swing at prototyping a brand new photo app and presenting it in front of their peers.

Over 120 developers took part this weekend, and now that the dust has settled (only just) we have the privilege of being the first to tell you which of the 41 hacks submitted last night came out on top.

On September 22nd, more than 100 developers descended upon Berlin to compete against each other in building the best photo app they could within 24 hours. After a long, sleepless night and thousands of lines of code, 27 new photo apps were born. Here's a look at the top three that won the competition.

Last month, nearly three hundred programmers descended on Dropbox's headquarters in San Francisco for the third annual Photo Hack Day. In the span of 24 hours, they threw together 70 new apps using the APIs of different photo services. $10,000 in prize money was distributed to the top three apps. Here's a look at the three best hacks that popped out of the competition.
