  • PetaPixel 7.5/10

If you need the image quality benefits the new sensor provides, this is the best-looking footage you can currently get from an action camera. But the high price and frustrating minimum focus limitations keep this camera from earning my ultimate recommendation.

[...] If you want the best action camera on the market, this is absolutely it. The Mission 1 Pro blows every other action camera out of the water and will deliver footage that no other action camera can match.

The GoPro Mission 1 Pro’s footage is the best-looking I’ve ever captured on a GoPro. Its 1-inch sensor, 8K Open Gate capture and superb low-light performance push it into new territory for the brand; shot in GP-Log2 with a bit of grading, the results can look truly cinematic.

In one fell swoop, the Mission 1 Pro answers all of my main worries about the GoPro cameras – though it adds a new one: price. If you can afford it, and don't mind the very slight size bump, then the specs and the reality of the image quality are hard to dispute.

  • Engadget 8.7/10

Thanks to its larger sensor, higher resolution and incredible frame rates, the Mission 1 is now the best you can get in this regard, handily outperforming the rival DJI Osmo Action 6. However, the GoPro Mission 1 lineup is expensive [...]

There is no question this is the most capable, most fullfeatured, most everything under the sun action camera in the market today. Like factually speaking, that is the reality of the situation.

I also wish it had a built-in ND filter system, as these are essential in bright conditions. However, image quality is outstanding, and the low-light performance is a major leap forward compared with previous GoPros.

It is also very expensive, which erodes its advantage over less expensive cameras. However, when considered as a whole, the Mission 1 Pro is the overall best in its genre, and if price isn't an object, this is the action to choose.

[I]f you want the best looking, by far the best image quality out of a camera in this size and this form factor, it's going to be the GoPro Mission 1 Pro, and you're just going to have to pony up the extra money for it.

I think it's just the camera that I've been hoping for. The 1-in sensor obviously just makes all the images and dynamic range so much better.

The Mission 1 Pro takes the best footage of any action camera currently available. It's just not a perfect camera otherwise.

Its strengths lie completely in video, not a shocker, but I was hoping this camera would be decent for stills, especially given how much GoPro has been marketing it as a point-and-shoot with its optional Grip mount.

Now, if you're someone who just wants your FPV footage to feel more cinematic and more professional, this is by far the best camera out there for that. Really, the next step up is getting a drone like this naked Blackmagic setup.
