Reviewer Consensus

Strong

DJI FPV provides an immersive, out-of-the-box flight experience that makes first-person drone flying accessible to beginners through intuitive software and safety features. That said, the system is not designed for serious photography or videography, and its proprietary, fragile build can lead to costly repairs.

The DJI FPV is for an entry-level enthusiast who wants a simple, cost-effective FPV drone that is easy to fly and offers a great experience while in the air.

DJI’s FPV drone is certainly going to appeal to those who want to get into this style of flying. Purists who’ve already built advanced FPV drones that are resilient and carry their preferred camera will likely pass on this one.

[I]t makes a great way of transitioning into FPV in a way which isn’t too much of a culture shock for people with a background like me [...]

The DJI FPV is fun in capital letters – its first-person view provides an incredibly immersive flying experience thanks to the amazing DJI Goggles, not to mention equally compelling video footage from the forward-facing camera. But it’s not all plain sailing.

The DJI FPV is really for serious videographers who want to achieve those slick and smooth action shots that speedy FPV drones are known for capturing. [...] [I]t’s a complete FPV system in one package, unlike other FPV drones that require a DIY approach to them.

Undoubtedly, though, this is DJI's first FPV product, and while it's an impressive lot of things, I suspect if we fast forward even six months or a year from now, the firmware will look dramatically different.

Drones aren't for everyone but this is something people should absolutely try given the opportunity. With the FPV drone, DJI has opened a whole new experience to a whole new group of people.

[B]efore I go any further, it’s just not suitable as an imaging drone. However much I like the way it looks, the small excited grunt it lets out when it powers up, and despite how fun it is to fly, this isn’t a drone for photographers or videographers.

This particular model is probably best suited to those who have some previous drone flying experience, and also have a bank balance which can afford the rather hefty outlay and inevitable repair bills.

The FPV is a ground-breaking drone, bringing the notoriously difficult world of FPV flight into the consumer fold. [...] Given that it’s DJI’s first FPV drone it’s a very impressive package.

It does at least make that whole world of FPV a lot more accessible. [...] The S mode was actually my favorite because it let me have a lot of the fun that I imagine is FPV flying with all of the like kind of training wheels that DJI usually gives you when you're flying a drone.

Considering all the included accessories and the technology that went into the drone, we would not feel short-changed having to pay that amount.

[T]his drone is ready to be flown and you just can, every beginner can do it, because we don't really care about getting a piece and apart from here the camera from there and then getting into Banggood and then here in the AliExpress and all that.

  • CAPTAIN DRONE

It's not the best FPV drone on the market, no, not even close to that, but it does have so many features that we do not have in the FPV world that are on this drone that make it a very attractive FPV drone despite its lesser qualities.

If you have a specific project coming up where you need speed, tremendous agility, and have a ton of time to practice? Then the FPV might well be the right drone for that project, especially since its 4K 60p imagery stands up quite well.

It can be a little scary to fly, but DJI’s FPV drone is a solid, easy to use intro to an otherwise very challenging and expensive sport.

For anyone who wants to get into drone racing, FPV flying, or a new style of capturing drone video, I would absolutely recommend the DJI FPV. There’s simply nothing else like it out there, unless you want to build your own drone.

The product is just not quite there yet, and DJI has a lot of work to do to make this the go-to FPV drone they wanted this to be, and until then I think I'll stick to my regular FPV drones which I can crash as much as I want and do more things with.

This is a whole new way of flying and it's not scary, and especially for like adventure flying, I can just kind of carve around just like I'm flying a normal airplane.

I am just very impressed with this drone and it makes me really excited to see where the future of FPV is going. If you're someone that's been wanting to get into FPV but it just seemed too complicated and too hard to get into, this is probably the perfect drone for you.
