McDonald’s and Lenovo Made an Adorable French Fry Mouse From Recycled Happy Meal Toys

McDonald’s teamed up with Chinese technology and electronics company Lenovo to make an utterly wild mouse shaped like a carton of McDonald’s famous french fries.

As far as special-edition electronics go, the Lenovo McDonald’s mouse ranks among the strangest. It’s not just weird, though; it’s also environmentally conscious. As The Verge reports, Lenovo built the mouse using recycled Happy Meal toys that customers had returned to the fast food chain. About 60% of the computer peripheral is made using recycled Happy Meal toys.

The new mouse builds upon McDonald’s “Reinventing Good Products” program, which the company started in China in 2021 to recycle waste materials and create new, innovative products.

The wireless mouse connects to a computer via Bluetooth or 2.4 GHz wireless, has three DPI preset settings, a scroll wheel, two click buttons, and an aesthetic sure to make any fast-food enthusiast very happy. The mouse has a small built-in battery and presumably charges over USB-C, although no specifics were offered. McDonald’s also didn’t specify the DPI settings.

It also comes with a carrying case styled to look like a McDonald’s food bag. The case unzips and unfolds into a portable mouse pad, which is a nice touch. The bag is also made from recycled materials, and the entire kit comes in a plastic-free cardboard package.

“Childhood joy will continue to accompany everyone in a new form,” McDonald’s China says in a machine-translated graphic.

Sadly, the McDonald’s x Lenovo fry-shaped mouse was very limited. The company had just 4,000 units to sell and distributed them all in 2,000-unit batches over two days last week. The price was extremely fair, though, with each unit priced at only around $14, plus some McDonald’s membership program rewards points. That’s not bad at all.

While these fry-shaped collectibles will no doubt end up on secondary online markets at some point, none were available outside China at the time of writing. Some enthusiastic McDonald’s fans may shell out a lot of money for a red-and-yellow recycled-plastic mouse in the coming weeks.

There’s very little chance this mouse is released again, and the odds are even slimmer that it has a global release. There is no American equivalent to the “Reinventing Good Products” program.
