Amazon’s Photo Frame Has Alexa AI To Show Only Your Best Pics

Amazon has announced the Alexa Photo Frame, an AI-equipped digital picture frame that works alongside the company’s popular, widely-used Amazon Photos service.
“Photos are one of the most powerful ways to hold onto what matters most — the people, places, and moments you never want to forget,” Amazon says. “But most of the photos we take today are stuck on our phones, never making it into the home where the people and moments we love can surround us every day.”
The Alexa Photo Frame is the company’s solution to that common problem. It is the only digital photo frame on the market with built-in Alexa that natively integrates with Amazon Photos, which offers free, unlimited photo storage for Amazon Prime members.
Users can use the Amazon Photos app to select specific people or photo albums to display, and photos sync automatically to the frame. New photos are displayed as they are taken and added to Amazon Photos.

As for Alexa, it does a lot of behind-the-scenes work. Alexa+ “intelligently picks” the best pictures to show based on “faces, time, and sentiment.” Amazon says Alexa knows to choose photos when people are smiling, when the lighting is good, and when the images match the season or timeframe. For example, Alexa will pick Christmas photos around Christmas instead of in June. Alexa also knows when to skip certain photos, like screenshots or images of receipts. Nobody wants to see those on their digital picture frame.
Users can also talk directly to Alexa through the frame, asking the AI to do things like “show me photos from the trip to the beach with mom” or “show photos of the kids.” People can add voice notes directly to images through the frame, sharing a bit of the story behind a shot. Users can also interact directly with the frame and swipe through a range of images.
“Alexa can find connections across your photo library and bring them together side-by-side—like a photo of your child eating an ice cream cone at four years old next to one of them years later in nearly the same pose,” Amazon promises. “Alexa looks beyond when a photo was taken to understand the people, places, and moments captured, helping you rediscover connections.”

The Alexa Photo Frame has a 10-inch high-definition touchscreen that is “specially calibrated” for showing photos. Amazon notes that it has a semi-matte, anti-glare finish that makes photos look more like prints and less like they are being shown on a screen. The digital photo frame has a light sensor that automatically adjusts brightness, and a soft-white, textured matte surrounds the screen.
The Alexa Photo Frame is available now starting at $199.99 in black and $229 with real birch or walnut wooden frames. Amazon Photos is free to all Amazon Prime subscribers and includes unlimited cloud photo storage.
